Turmeric

You may have heard about studies that have revealed about numerous health benefits and disease preventing qualities of Turmeric. Here are some ways to incorporate this spice into your daily diet.

Brew Turmeric Tea

This is perhaps the simplest way to use turmeric – just boil 1 cup of water and add a 1/4th teaspoon of freshly grated or ground turmeric. Let it simmer for a few minutes and simmer it later before consuming. Add more flavour by adding some lemon juice or honey.

Season Roasted Veggies

Vegetables like diced potatoes, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower can be tossed with olive oil and turmeric powder. Roast at 400 degrees for about 30-40 minutes. You can use any seasoning for adding more flavour to this snack.

Top Up the Salad

Sprinkle your salad with turmeric or you can even have it blended for dressing up the salad and the flavour is unnoticed. Turmeric salad is very easy to prepare. Add ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric, 2 teaspoons each of miso paste and apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of raw honey, olive oil and lemon juice. Whisk all the ingredients thoroughly for creating a perfect salad.

Make A Curry Powder

Mixing turmeric powder with oil and black pepper is highly recommended because it increases the bioavailability of curcumin for your body to utilize. Hence, one of the best methods to consume turmeric is to use it in dishes containing fat, curry powder, and black pepper. Curry powder can be prepared easily using ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, paprika, and cayenne. You can adjust the hotness by increasing or decreasing cayenne and have this powder in your kitchen rack for 6 months. Chickpea curry wraps, coconut split pea soup are some of the delicious recipes that can be prepared using this curry powder that is infused with healthy turmeric.

Juice It or Blend It into Smoothie

Make a smoothie using dark leafy greens, carrots, cucumbers, apple, orange, and strawberries. Just blend these ingredients with ground turmeric or fresh, raw turmeric to make it healthier. You may notice some change in the color of your smoothie. It is quite natural because turmeric has rich pigments. If you wish to improve the bioavailability, consider dissolving turmeric in warm coconut oil before blending.

Drink the Golden Milk

This ancient Ayurvedic recipe involves mixing turmeric paste in warm milk and ghee or oil. You can use regular, goat, oat, or nut milk for this purpose. Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric paste in about 1 cup of milk and cook for 5 minutes. Add ½ teaspoon of ghee or coconut oil before consuming. This drink is ideal to consume before bedtime. You can also add some sweetness by including cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, maple syrup or honey. For another Turmeric brew, give our Golden Spice Chai a try!
