How to Use Harissa?

Mix It with Couscous or Grains

Seasoning couscous with harissa spice mix is one of the favourite uses. You can find a plethora of recipes that use harissa. For the most basic one, you can combine harissa with couscous and drizzle some olive oil over it. This recipe works well with lentils as well. Cook the lentils and add some parsley, and chopped onions. Then use harissa to create a healthy and flavourful dish. You can also try mixing harissa with rice, farro, quinoa, or other grains. Serve these grains with salmon and use zaalouk as a side. These flavours will complement each other very well.

Use Harissa for Roasting Vegetables

Drizzle olive oil over the vegetables and sprinkle some salt before roasting. Use harissa spice mix to brush them just before they are ready. Harissa mix blends exceptionally well with roasted onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, squash, and zucchini. The spicy flavour of harissa cuts through the sweetened vegetables and creates a balanced flavour. You can even toss your vegetables in the harissa mix and add some olive oil before roasting.

Cook Your Meat in Harissa-Flavoured Sauce

If you are cooking stew, tagine, or casserole, consider adding the harissa mix to the cooking liquid. Cook slowly and allow harissa to develop its flavour.
