Celebrating Father’s Day with a Tantalising five star Menu Using Our Bespoke Salts Range

Inspiration for this fathers day struck in full force and before I knew it I had a catalog of delicious dishes, condiments and, even a cocktail to choose from, so I thought I must share these funky salt inspired dishes with you all in the hopes I can give you a little Father’s-Day-celebration menu inspiration.

Salt – It’s an excellent way of bringing out and accentuating the natural flavors of food from tomatoes to meat, to even sweet dishes! But did you know how many there are out there? It may surprise you to know there isn’t just a one-size-fits-all when it comes to this universal seasoning.
Here at The Spice People alone, we have a range of 8 unique, bespoke blends to jazz up just about any meal. These beauties came to mind when I was planning our menu for family Father’s Day. I came up with a few classic dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (any occasion for celebration in my household always involves a full day of eating), but was looking for a way to make them a little more interesting and our salts immediately came to mind!

Breakfast

Smoky Chilli Scrambled Eggs

This Smoky Chilli Scramble is the perfect thing for a special-occasion brekky that’s still minimal fuss, time and effort, so you can feed the hungry hordes first thing! Made from chilli flakes, sea salt, garlic granules, black pepper, mesquite smoke powder and, oregano, our Smoked Salt & Chilli Seasoning adds the perfect spicy, salty, savory hit to liven these eggs up! This base recipe is a winner in itself, but if you’ve got a little extra time on your hands, I like to add roasted tomatoes or even some crispy thick-cut bacon.

With a little finishing touch of fresh spring onions, this breakfast has a wonderful balance of flavors and is perfect hearty beginning to any day.

Lunch

The Ultimate Smoky Steak Sandwich

This sandwich may only have a few ingredients, however, with a few subtle tricks, it creates an absolute flavor explosion in your mouth. By using our Smoked Salt, it not only enhances the natural flavor of the meat itself but adds a deep, smoky flavor to the meat as though it’s come straight from the smoker.

By using a griddle pan or BBQ, an extra level of smoky charred flavor is added that takes this to the next level. This smoky flavor is then echoed in the grilled tomatoes which combine so beautifully with the garlic aioli to make the most delicious condiment. Finished off with some zesty, peppery rocket and, some fresh red onion all enclosed in a warm, crusty ciabatta roll, this is the ultimate steak sandwich!

Dinner

Charcoal Beer Can Chicken

I had often seen this done and wasn’t reallsure if it was a temporary culinary gimmick or potentially the most delicious BBQ chicken you could make – turns out, it’s a big winner! The beer doesn’t exactly add a particular flavor as such but acts more as a stand to ensure a completely even cook throughout the whole chicken as well as creates a steam trap inside the chicken to keep the meat super tender and moist.

The Charcoal Salt creates the most delicious crispy skin on the outside with a subtle charcoal flavor and the addition of the Mesquite Smoke Powder amplifies this as well as tasting like an authentic charcoal chicken that’s come straight from the smoker!

I usually serve this chook alongside some fresh cabbage slaw and some oven-roasted chips seasoned with our Celery Salt Seasoning.

Dessert

Black & White Salted Chocolate Brownies

I, like many I’m sure, am always on the quest for the fudgiest, yummiest chocolate brownies and finally! This recipe takes the cake (pun intended). These brownies are the perfect mix of salty, sweet and, little bit smoky from the addition of the charcoal salt in our Black and White Salt Blend. The black and white theme is also echoed with the sweet surprise of chunks of white chocolate that melt inside.

Crispy on the top and gooey in the middle – the perfect sweet after-dinner treat!

Condiment

Smoky Hot Chilli Sauce

As a hot sauce lover, you can imagine my excitement when I had the great idea of adding our Smoked Salt & Chilli Seasoning to take this recipe to the next level!

To enhance the smoky flavor, I decided to char the chillies, tomatoes and, capsicums before blending which just makes the world of difference. By using apple cider vinegar in place of just a standard one, it adds a subtle fruity sweetness that offset the smoky chilli flavor perfectly and creates a deliciously balanced sauce.

We use this sauce on just about everything from eggs in the morning, to a side condiment with meats, to a marinade for steaks. This sauce is sure to become a staple in your condiment collection. Serve alongside all of these dishes to add a spicy kick or simply jar up adorned with a ribbon and gift tag to make the perfect Father’s Day gift.

Cocktails

Celebrations not only call for amazing food but some delicious cocktails as the perfect finishing touch. These two are my little spins on a couple of classics and I think add the touches you never knew were missing. For a Father’s Day treat, serve up his Chilli Scramble with a good old Smoked Bloody Mary, and an early-evening dinner of BBQ chicken calls for a Smoky Spicy Margarita! If you or anyone in your family doesn’t drink, you can simply make these as mocktails by removing the alcohol.

Smoky Spicy Margaritas 

  • 60ml tequila
  • 30ml triple sec
  • juice of 1 lime
  • Smoked Salt & Chilli Seasoning
  • 1 chilli for garnish

Combine the tequila, triple sec and, lime juice in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice and shake to mix. Wet the rim of a glass with the used lime flesh and coat with the Smoked Salt & Chilli Seasoning. Carefully pour the margarita in and garnish with the fresh chilli and enjoy! This recipe makes 1 margarita.

Smoked Bloody Mary 

  • 50ml vodka
  • 250ml tomato juice
  • a squeeze of lemon juice
  • few drops of Worcestershire sauce
  • few drops of Tabasco sauce
  • pinch of black pepper
  • pinch of  Smoked Sea Salt
  • celery stick for serving

Rim the edge of a tall glass with some lemon juice and Smoked Sea Salt. Combine all the ingredients in the glass with plenty of ice and stir to mix. Serve with the celery stick and enjoy!
