Glazing a Christmas ham can be a huge effort and likely the last thing you want to be doing on Christmas day. So, I’ve come up with a super simple ham recipe that glazes beautifully and doesn’t need to be removed from the oven constantly for glazing and basting. By studding the ham with beautifully scented Whole Cloves you create a wonderful Christmasy aroma and flavour that permeates the ham gently through the cooking process. It also looks very effective once the ham is cooked!
This ham is as quick and easy as it is delicious and one, I promise you’ll add to your Christmas repertoire from now on! Christmas is for relaxing and enjoying time with friends and family not slaving in your kitchen for hours; so, I’ve created Tips and Tricks for Making Christmas Cooking a Breeze with many savoury and sweet recipes for a quick and easy Christmas.
The measurements below are based on an approximate 4.5kg half-leg ham, adjust as needed. Serve this ham alongside our Quick Stovetop Christmas Turkey and your favourite sides!

Method
- Begin by removing the skin from the ham. This can be easily done by simply scoring deeply with a sharp knife around the base of the ham where the bone is and peeling off carefully. Once removed, gently score the fat in diagonal lines going both ways creating a diamond pattern. Stud the corners of each diamond with a whole clove and set aside while you make the glaze.
- Combine the brown sugar and hot mustard in a bowl and mix well. Once it forms a thick paste, spread all over your ham being careful not to dislodge any of the cloves. Place in a preheated 180-degree oven and cook uncovered for one hour or until the ham is warmed through and the top has formed a glazed crust. Remove and rest for at least 10 minutes before craving and serving.
