Red rice is a whole grain variety of rice that retains its natural red-coloured bran layer. This outer layer is what gives the grain its distinctive reddish hue, along with a richer nutritional profile compared to white rice.

Unlike polished white rice, red rice is minimally processed, which means it keeps more of its natural fibre, vitamins, and minerals. It has a firm, slightly chewy texture and a warm, nutty flavour.

Red rice is commonly used in salads, grain bowls, pilafs, and as a wholesome side dish. It pairs especially well with vegetables, grilled meats, and bold dressings or spices, making it a versatile option for both everyday meals and more elevated dishes.
