Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps The Spice People’s Australian Native BBQ Seasoning
  • 1000g beef mince
  • 1 cup bread crumbs – optional
  • 8 wide lettuce leaves – cos, oak or iceberg
  • 4 tomatoes, sliced – two slices per burger
  • 2 red onion – thinly sliced
  • 8 pickles, sliced – can also use pre-sliced jarred pickles
  • 8 slices cheese – tasty, cheddar, or any melting cheese you like
  • 8 burger buns
  • 2 tbsp good-quality mayo
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard

Directions

  1. In a bowl, add your mince, breadcrumbs, and Native BBQ Seasoning and mix well to combine – it’s important to mix well and work the mince a lot at this stage until it’s nice and sticky.
  2. This will ensure your burgers don’t break up when grilling. Divide the mix into four and form into burger patties – make the patties slightly bigger than your buns as they will shrink when cooking.
  3. Heat your BBQ or griddle pan to high. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and place your patties on, grilling for about 4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your liking. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt on top.
  4. Remove from the pan and set aside to rest for 2 minutes. While the grill is still hot, place the buns cut-side down to warm through and crisp the outside up slightly – about 30 seconds.

In the meantime, combine the mustard and mayo in a small bowl. Layer your lettuce, tomato, onion, patties, and sauce and top with your bun lid. Serve as a standalone or alongside some hand-cut chips and enjoy!
