Ingredients
- 2 tbsps The Spice People’s Australian Native BBQ Seasoning
- 1000g beef mince
- 1 cup bread crumbs – optional
- 8 wide lettuce leaves – cos, oak or iceberg
- 4 tomatoes, sliced – two slices per burger
- 2 red onion – thinly sliced
- 8 pickles, sliced – can also use pre-sliced jarred pickles
- 8 slices cheese – tasty, cheddar, or any melting cheese you like
- 8 burger buns
- 2 tbsp good-quality mayo
- 2 tbsp dijon mustard
Directions
- In a bowl, add your mince, breadcrumbs, and Native BBQ Seasoning and mix well to combine – it’s important to mix well and work the mince a lot at this stage until it’s nice and sticky.
- This will ensure your burgers don’t break up when grilling. Divide the mix into four and form into burger patties – make the patties slightly bigger than your buns as they will shrink when cooking.
- Heat your BBQ or griddle pan to high. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and place your patties on, grilling for about 4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your liking. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt on top.
- Remove from the pan and set aside to rest for 2 minutes. While the grill is still hot, place the buns cut-side down to warm through and crisp the outside up slightly – about 30 seconds.
In the meantime, combine the mustard and mayo in a small bowl. Layer your lettuce, tomato, onion, patties, and sauce and top with your bun lid. Serve as a standalone or alongside some hand-cut chips and enjoy!
