Vibrantly red and brimming with character, Ethiopian Berbere is more than just a spice—it’s the heartbeat of Ethiopian cuisine. This iconic blend brings together the warmth of cinnamon, the aromatic depth of ginger and garlic, the earthy complexity of fenugreek, and a piquant kick of chilli, creating a delicate yet powerful backbone for countless regional dishes.
The name “Berbere” traces back to the Ethiopian word Barbare, meaning “hot,” which itself stems from the ancient term papare, or pepper—an enduring nod to the spice’s fiery essence. Traditionally, Berbere is the star of Ethiopia’s national dish, Wat, a slow-simmered stew that embodies the richness of the country’s culinary heritage. Beyond stews, it adds warmth, colour, and depth to meats, vegetables, and grains, making every meal a celebration of flavour.
Our Berbere blend is crafted to capture this authentic taste, delivering the true essence of Ethiopia’s vibrant spice culture to your kitchen, so you can recreate the magic of Horn of Africa cuisine with every dish.
