Malaysian Rendang is a mild, dry-style dish enjoyed throughout South-East Asia, from Singapore and Indonesia to the Philippines, with each region adding its own twist. The Malaysian version is renowned for its rich coconut notes, dryer texture, and tender, full-bodied flavours. This versatile blend is family-friendly, perfect for both meat and vegetarian dishes. Traditionally served with steamed rice, it pairs beautifully with fresh condiments such as fried onions, cucumber, or peanut salad, creating a complete, aromatic, and indulgent meal.
Rendang is a culinary experience that celebrates time, care, and layered flavours. Hours of slow simmering transform beef, chicken, or plant-based proteins into tender, spoon-tender perfection, infused with the vibrant aromatics and a blend of fragrant spices. As it cooks, the coconut milk deepens into a nutty, buttery richness, binding the flavours together into a harmonious, mouthwatering dish.
With our specially crafted Malay Rendang Spice, you can effortlessly recreate this iconic Malaysian dish at home. Use a slow cooker or let it gently simmer on the stove, filling your kitchen with its intoxicating aroma.
Classic Rendang: Sauté 1/2 pack of the spice mix with 500 g of beef, lamb, chicken, or plant-based protein in a little oil. Add coconut milk and slowly simmer for 60 to 90 mins, allowing the spices to infuse the meat and sauce with the rich, aromatic depth that makes Rendang legendary.
Marinade: Combine the spice mix with coconut milk or yogurt and coat your protein for an easy, flavor-packed Malay-inspired marinade. Let it rest for 30 minutes to absorb the complex, warming spices before cooking.
Vegetable Rendang: Sauté the spice mix with onions, garlic, and ginger, then add hearty vegetables like pumpkin, eggplant, or mushrooms. Slowly cook in coconut milk for a rich, vegetarian Rendang that’s full of aroma and flavor.
Quick Stir-Fry: Add a pinch of the spice mix to a hot wok with your choice of protein and vegetables for a speedy, fragrant stir-fry with the signature nutty, aromatic, and subtly spicy notes of traditional Malay Rendang.
